Kits run from $3,399 to $19,999, and most cost between about $8,000 and $14,000. Floor space runs from 33 sq ft to 240 sq ft, and loft models add a sleeping loft above the main room.

Planning Your Small Cabin

Every cabin needs a level foundation, such as a concrete pad, piers or a gravel base. Roofing finish, insulation and electrical are usually extra. How much does it cost to build a small cabin?

Our small cabin kits run from $3,399 to $19,999, with most between $8,000 and $14,000. Plan to spend more again on a foundation, roofing finish, electrical and labor to finish it out.

What sizes do small cabin kits come in?

From 33 sq ft to 240 sq ft of floor space, plus a sleeping loft on loft models. That covers everything from a compact office pod to a studio cabin with a loft.

How long does it take to build a small cabin kit?

Two adults with basic DIY skills can usually raise the shell of a 100–150 sq ft cabin in 2 to 3 days. Foundation prep and interior finishing take extra time.

Do I need special tools to build a cabin kit?

No. Most kits need a drill/driver, level, tape measure, rubber mallet and a ladder. The logs and parts arrive pre-cut, so little or no sawing is needed.

Can I use a small cabin in winter?

Yes, with the right wall thickness and insulation. Choose 70 mm walls for year-round use, add insulation to the floor and roof, and use a small heater or mini-split.

Do I need a permit for a small cabin?

Cabins under about 120 sq ft without plumbing are exempt in many cities. Larger cabins, lofts and sleeping space usually need a permit. Check our permit guide.
