Central Heat Pump Systems

A central heat pump system pairs an outdoor heat pump with an indoor air handler that connects to your home's existing ductwork. It replaces a conventional furnace and central air conditioner with one all-electric system that heats and cools the whole house.

This collection includes Senville central air conditioner and heat pump systems in 24,000, 36,000 and 48,000 BTU (2, 3 and 4 ton) sizes, with optional auxiliary heat strips, plus the line sets designed for these systems.

How to choose a central heat pump

  • Size: match the tonnage to your home's heating and cooling load. A Manual J load calculation from your HVAC contractor is the reliable way to size it.
  • Ductwork: these systems are designed for homes with existing supply and return ducts.
  • Backup heat: choose a 10, 15 or 20 kW auxiliary heater for very cold climates, or none in milder ones.
  • Cold-weather heating: the 36,000 and 48,000 BTU systems are rated to heat down to -22°F.

FAQs

Will a central heat pump work with my existing ducts?

Yes. The air handler connects to your existing supply and return ductwork. Have your installer check that the ducts are sized correctly for the new system.

Central heat pump or ductless mini split?

If your home already has ducts, a central system conditions every room through them. If it doesn't, or you only need certain rooms, look at single zone or multi zone mini splits.

Do I need the auxiliary heater?

It depends on your climate. The heat strip adds backup heat for the coldest days and defrost cycles. In mild climates many homeowners choose none.

Is professional installation required?

Yes. Central systems should be installed by a licensed HVAC technician.
