Outdoor Freedom Rooms

An Outdoor Freedom Room is a garden room built for the way you live: a separate, finished space in your backyard for a quiet office, an art or music studio, a guest suite, a home gym or a lounge, without the cost and disruption of building an addition. Most models arrive as precision-cut kits with doors and windows included, ready for a DIY build or professional installation.

Prefab Garden Rooms, from Compact Studios to Guest Suites

Our garden rooms and outdoor rooms range from compact studios under 120 sq ft to multi-room houses over 2,000 sq ft. Most are built from slow-grown Nordic spruce with solid 44mm, 70mm or 90mm log walls; the thicker the wall, the better the building holds heat in winter and stays cool in summer. Modern ALU Concept models add aluminum framing and full-height glass for a contemporary look.

How to Choose the Right Backyard Room

  • Use: an office or studio usually needs 100–200 sq ft; a guest suite with a sleeping area needs 250 sq ft or more.
  • Wall thickness: 44mm suits three-season use in mild climates; 70mm and 90mm walls are better for year-round use and colder regions.
  • Permits: many cities allow small accessory buildings (often under 120 sq ft) without a building permit, but rules vary. Read our guide on permits for backyard structures, then check with your local building department before you order.
  • Foundation: plan for a level concrete slab, pier or gravel base sized to the building's footprint.
  • Utilities: if you plan to add power, heating or cooling, budget for an electrician and an insulation package.

How Much Does a Garden Room Cost?

How much does a garden room cost?

Garden room kits start at $3,399 for the 33 sq ft Loo Loo House studio, and $6,499 for a 67 sq ft cabana. Most studios, offices and 1-bedroom suites run about $14,000 to $31,000 for the kit. Large multi-room houses go up to about $200,000. Budget separately for a foundation, roofing finish, electrical, delivery and installation.

What sizes do Outdoor Freedom Rooms come in?

From 33 sq ft studios to multi-room houses over 2,000 sq ft. Popular sizes are 100–250 sq ft for an office or studio, 250–450 sq ft for a 1-bedroom guest suite, and 450 sq ft and up for a multi-room house. Each product page lists the footprint and ridge height.

Does a garden room need a foundation?

Yes. Every room needs a level, solid base. Common options are a concrete slab, concrete piers or a gravel pad with a timber frame. The right choice depends on size, soil and local code. Larger rooms and anything with plumbing usually need concrete.

Can I sleep in my garden room?

Yes. Many customers use a 1-bedroom Freedom Suite as a guest room. If people will sleep there regularly, most cities treat it as habitable space, which means insulation, egress windows, electrical and a permit. Check our permit guide and your local building department.

Do I need a permit for a garden room?

It depends on your city. Many places exempt small accessory buildings (often under 120 sq ft) with no plumbing or electrical. Larger rooms, sleeping space and utility hookups usually need a permit. Read our permit guide before you order.

What is included in an Outdoor Freedom Room kit?

Most of our rooms are DIY kits with Nordic spruce log walls (44 mm, 70 mm or 90 mm thick), doors, windows and a floor, shipped flat-packed as a closed shell. Roofing cover and rain gutters are optional extras. Some models, such as Sawmill Structures, also include trim and fasteners. The exact list is on each product page.

Can Freedom Room help me choose and install a room?

Yes. Call 512-777-0154 or book a free design consultation for sizing help, a real price for your project and installation options in your area.
