Louvered Pergola

A louvered pergola has a roof made of adjustable slats (louvers) that tilt to let in full sun, filter light, or close for shade. It's the most flexible way to cover a patio: open on a mild spring evening, angled against afternoon glare, closed when you want maximum shade.

  • Brookside Timber Frame Zion Resort Pergola: solid Douglas Fir timber framing with an adjustable louvered roof and gray louvers, for a warm, resort-style look. Sizes from 8x8 ft to 20x20 ft.

How to choose a louvered pergola

  • Aluminum vs. wood: aluminum louvered pergolas are nearly maintenance-free and suit modern homes; timber frames have a warmer, rustic look and need periodic sealing.
  • Manual vs. motorized louvers: manual louvers cost less; motorized systems add convenience and, on some models, rain sensors. Ask us which options are available for each model.
  • Size: about 12x12 ft covers a dining set for six; 16x16 ft fits a lounge area or outdoor kitchen.
  • Rain and snow: closed louvers shed light rain toward the gutters or edges; check the snow-load rating if you live in a cold climate.
  • Permits: because louvered roofs can close, some cities treat them like roofed structures. Read Do I need a permit for a pergola?

What is a louvered pergola?

A louvered pergola has a roof of adjustable slats (louvers). Open them for sun and airflow, angle them against glare, or close them for shade and light rain cover.

How much does a louvered pergola cost?

Our louvered pergolas start at $12,430 for a Douglas Fir timber frame model. The Structureworks Stratus aluminum pergola starts at $24,464. Price depends on size and options.

Do louvered pergolas leak when it rains?

Closed louvers shed most rain, but they are not a sealed roof. In heavy, wind-driven rain some water can get through. For full rain cover, see our pergolas with roofs.

What sizes do louvered pergolas come in?

The Stratus aluminum pergola comes in 12×12, 16×12 and 16×16 ft. The Zion Resort timber pergola comes in sizes from 8×8 to 20×20 ft.

What warranty comes with an aluminum louvered pergola?

The Structureworks Stratus has a 30-year warranty and a 10-year finish warranty. Check the product page for full terms.
