Solar Inverters

A solar inverter turns the DC power from your solar panels and batteries into the AC power your home runs on. Our Sun Gold Power inverters range from 2,000W to 18,000W, at 12V, 24V and 48V, with pure sine wave output for sensitive electronics. Many models have a built-in battery charger or MPPT solar charge controller, and split phase models give you both 120V and 240V for well pumps, dryers and other large appliances.

Off-Grid, Hybrid and Inverter Chargers

  • Pure sine wave inverter chargers (2,000W–18,000W): run your loads from a battery bank and recharge it from the grid or a generator. 12V, 24V and 48V options.
  • Solar charger inverters with MPPT (3,000W–12,000W): take panels, batteries and AC in one box, so you need fewer separate components.
  • Hybrid split phase inverters (7,600W–12,000W): work with solar, batteries and the grid together for home backup.
  • Commercial three-phase (18,000W): an all-in-one 48V solar charge inverter for larger buildings.

Prices run from $445 to $3,995. Pair your inverter with solar panels and solar batteries, or save time with a complete off-grid solar kit or hybrid solar kit.

What does a solar inverter do?

It converts direct current (DC) from solar panels and batteries into alternating current (AC), the power standard outlets and appliances use. Inverter chargers can also charge your batteries from the grid or a generator, and models with MPPT manage solar charging for you.

What are the main types of solar inverters?

Off-grid inverters run your home from batteries with no grid connection. Hybrid inverters work with solar, batteries and the grid at the same time. Grid-tied string and microinverters send solar power to the grid without batteries. We carry off-grid inverter chargers, all-in-one solar charger inverters and hybrid split phase inverters.

Can a 3000 watt inverter run a house?

A 3,000W inverter can run essentials like a refrigerator, lights, internet and a TV, but not a whole house at once. Central air, electric ranges, dryers and well pumps need more power and often 240V. Most whole-home off-grid systems use 8,000W to 12,000W split phase inverters.

Is a 5kW inverter enough to run a house?

It can run a small, efficient home or a cabin, and covers most daily loads if you avoid running large appliances at the same time. If you need 240V for a well pump or dryer, choose a split phase model such as the 6,500W, 8,000W or 10,000W.

How many solar panels do I need for a 5,000W inverter?

It depends on panel wattage and the inverter's solar input limit. As a rough guide, about 5,000W of panels matches a 5,000W inverter, which is around 12 to 14 panels at 370W–415W each. Check the PV input voltage and MPPT current on the product page before you size your array.

What should you not plug into an inverter?

Do not exceed the inverter's continuous rated wattage, and allow for surge loads from motors and compressors when they start. Smaller 12V inverters are not meant for large heating appliances like space heaters, hair dryers or electric water heaters. Use a split phase or larger inverter for 240V appliances.

Can Freedom Room help me pick the right inverter?

Yes. Call 512-777-0154 or send us a message with your loads and battery voltage, and we'll help you match an inverter, panels and batteries.
