Pergola Wood Types

Douglas Fir: Very strong, affordable softwood (technically a softwood but is one of the strongest and hardest)with good grain; ideal for framing but prone to knots and needs sealing outdoors.

Douglas Fir Premium: Higher-grade Fir with fewer knots and cleaner grain; great for visible, load-bearing builds—at a higher price.

**Douglas Fir contains the same tar as cedar, making it a very weather-durable.
