Prefab Backyard Offices and Office Pods

Every model ships as a precision-cut kit for DIY assembly or professional installation. Choose from solid Nordic spruce log buildings (44mm, 70mm or 90mm walls), modern ALU Concept offices with aluminum framing and full-height glass, Sawmill Structures timber cabins, and cedar studios from Outdoor Living Today.

How to Plan Your Garden Office

  • Size: under 120 sq ft suits one person; 150–250 sq ft fits two desks or a desk plus a lounge area; 300+ sq ft works as a studio, meeting space or office-plus-guest room.
  • Year-round comfort: 70mm and 90mm walls or insulated (ISO) models, double glazing and a ductless mini split make a backyard office usable in summer and winter.
  • Power and connectivity: plan a dedicated electrical circuit and extend your home network with a mesh Wi-Fi node or buried Ethernet.
  • Foundation: a level concrete slab, pier or gravel base sized to the footprint.
  • Permits: small accessory buildings are often exempt from building permits, but size limits, setbacks and electrical rules vary by city, so check locally before you order.

How much does a backyard office shed cost?

Our backyard office kits start at $6,999 for a 67 sq ft office pod. Most run $12,000 to $22,000, and larger studios reach about $38,000. Add foundation, electrical, internet, heating and cooling, and assembly to get your total.

Can you work from home in a shed?

Yes, as long as it's built for it. You need insulation, double-glazed windows, power and data, and heating and cooling. Our offices have solid spruce log walls (44–90 mm), and many models have double-glazed windows, so with a mini-split they work year-round.

What size backyard office do I need?

One person with a desk needs about 70–120 sq ft. Two desks or a meeting area need 150–250 sq ft. For an office plus a guest bed or lounge, look at 250 sq ft and up.

Is it cheaper to buy an office shed or build one?

A prefab kit is usually faster and more predictable. You get engineered walls, windows and doors in one delivery. Building from scratch can save on materials, but you pay in design time, cutting and labor.

How do I get power and internet to a backyard office?

Most owners run a buried electrical line from the house panel to a small subpanel, which needs an electrician and a permit. For internet, use a mesh Wi-Fi point, a wired Ethernet run in the same trench, or a point-to-point wireless bridge.

Will a backyard office raise my property taxes?

It can. A permanent, finished office with power is often added to your assessed value. Ask your county appraisal district how they treat accessory buildings.

Does a backyard office add value to my home?

A well-built, permitted office is usable space many buyers want, especially remote workers. How much value it adds depends on your market. To plan yours, book a free design consultation.
